HOW TO: Dress for a winter country wedding

Not all country social occasions can be dressed for in my comfort-blanket outfit of wellies and a waxed jacket, but luckily, New Look have come to the rescue with a gorgeous new collection of formal wear that takes all the hassle out of dressing up beautifully for autumn weddings, Christmas parties and winter balls.
The key to formal dressing is to plan everything around the perfect dress, which is easy to find with New Look’s autumn collection of gorgeous new prom dresses. A knee-length skirt is the way to go – you might love the idea of making a sweeping entrance in a traditional floor-length ball dress, but when it comes to busting some moves you’ll start to regret your choice. I’ve moshed in a field in a ball gown to the dulcet sounds of The Wurzels, and let me tell you, it’s not as fun as it sounds.
A vintage style wasp-waisted party frock with tulle petticoats will emphasize your figure beautifully, or you can cover up a little more in the lacy long-sleeved party frocks from Kelly Brook’s collection.
Shoes are another minefield, as I discovered at an embassy garden party when my oh-so-elegant heeled sandals kept sinking into the perfectly manicured lawn, effectively pinning me in place. Instead of heels, go for one of New Look’s lovely ballet pump styles in a nude tone (footwear colour of choice of the Duchess of Cambridge FYI), and you’ll have no trouble rocking out all night. Just add a vintage-style patent bag and a faux fur wrap and gloves to keep you cosy.
